(Manchester, NH, November 1, 2021) – Sheehan Phinney shareholder Katherine M. Hanna was honored with the New Hampshire Hospital Association’s Leslie A. Smith Presidents Award for work championing revisions to New Hampshire’s Advance Directive laws.
“(Kate) was involved in every aspect of the review of the existing statute, participating in extensive group discussions about what needed to be updated, providing expert legal guidance, spending hours of her personal time reviewing drafts, testifying at hearings, and drafting alternative language on numerous occasions,” says Steve Ahnen, President of the New Hampshire Hospital Association. “She has been a tremendous resource to both the Foundation and Association staff during the entire legislative session, with the bill passing the legislature in large part to her contributions and respectful, thoughtful work to get parties to compromise and understand the importance of the necessary changes.”

She has had substantial experience in state and federal government, having served as Policy Director and Legal Counsel to Governor John Lynch, an elected Representative to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and a Legislative Assistant in the United States Senate.
Hanna was recently named as New Hampshire’s Healthcare Lawyer of the Year for 2021 by Best Lawyers of America®. She received the 2021 Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care Alliance’s Mary Ellen LaRoche Home Care Public Policy Award, is a two-time recipient of the NH Bar Association President’s Award for Distinguished Public Service and received the 2015 -Dunfey-Kanteres Award, NH Democratic Party. Hanna is admitted in New Hampshire and received her B.A., cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College and her J.D. from Boston College Law School.
